how can I keep a Krispy Kreme doughnut for tomorrow?

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are meant to be eaten fresh at room temperature within 12 hours. It’s no surprise that I cannot find any official advice on keeping Krispy Kreme doughnuts – and yet if I’ve some leftover I’m wanting to somehow keep them for another day. Here’s what I do:

keep a doughnut for tomorrow

Keep the doughnuts in the fridge or in their box at room temperature overnight. Next day microwave a doughnut for 5 or 10 seconds and it will become moist and soft again. Let it cool for few minutes and eat it soon.

keep a doughnut for next week

Wrap a doughnut in metal foil and freeze it. Move the doughnut from the freezer to the fridge the night before. Next day microwave the doughnut for 10 seconds. Let it cool for few minutes and eat it soon.

Otherwise remove the doughnut from the freezer and thaw it in the microwave. For this, if it’s a filled doughnut I suggest

• to give it a 10 second blast wait 30 seconds and repeat a few times. Alternatively if you have a Panasonic microwave oven…
• a microwave Chaos Defrost feature which does a great job with frozen doughnuts. The procedure is press [Chaos Defrost] once > press down / up [arrow] once to set Bread weight = 100g > Press [start] and a time of ~45 seconds will show. Defrosting will begin and stop; press [start] again. Allow to cool for several minutes.
